Front design
Head of Atatürk left. This coin is known as "Tam Cumhuriyet Altını" = Full Republican Gold and used with its bullion value. New dates are always preferred by the public; thus older dates are rarer as many go back to the mint each year to be melted.
Back design
Legend and date within wreath. Date is calculated by adding onto 1923 the bottom number. Illustrated example here is 1923+47=1970.

Context
The Meskuk is the standard version of the turkish gold bullion coinage and is referred to as “store of value” or “money” coin. The year date is based on the number of years since 1923, when Turkey was established as a Republic. The year date changes on 29 October, the date in 1923 when Turkey became a Republic, and the coins are struck with this date until 28 October in the following year. For example, 1923/86 indicates that the coin was issued between 29 October 2009 and 28 October 2010.
