Obverse: ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ SOCIALISTICKÁ REPUBLIKA 100 KČS Reverse: 17. LISTOPAD 1939 - 1989
Context
Coin commemorates repressions of Nazi government against Czech Universities and students on 17. November 1939. The date was proclaimed International day of students in 1941. As a historical irony, this coin, issued by socialist government was commemorating 50th anniversary of the event. Same year on November 17th, students demonstrating against the regime were met with force and repression, in the event that led to country-wide strike, and ultimately to Velvet revolution, which ended socialist rule in Czechoslovakia.
