Obverse: COMMUNAUTE EUROPEENNE JEAN MONNET "UNIR LES HOMMES" J. JIMENEZ Reverse: LIBERTE • EGALITE • FRATERNITE 100 FRANCS • 1992 • RF A. PAOLI
Context
Jean Monnet , (1888-1979) Jean Monnet was a senior French civil servant, international banker and major player in European integration and construction, and is considered one of the "Fathers of Europe". The obverse motif of twelve interlaced rings symbolizes the twelve original members of the European Union. Alain Paoli's design is reminiscent of the Fugio Cent , the first currency issued by the young American federal state, on which thirteen interlaced rings represent the first thirteen colonies. This is an automatic translation.
